Is Netflix 4k Worth It? – (Comparison To Other VOD)

2020 and 2021 were years that we had to spend a lot of time in our house or apartment, let’s hope that 2022 will be different, but for now, our best solutions are streaming services with many movies in their libraries like Netflix! Ok, but if we are going to spend a lot of hours watching movies maybe we should invest in the highest possible plan and that is called the “premium” plan, currently it’s worth 17.99$ USD in all states of America, That will give us many benefits but most important is 4k resolution, also you will get many others smaller functions, but is Netflix 4k worth it?

The lower plan is worth 13.99$ USD where you have HD resolution (1280 x 720 px) that is a lot lower quality than that in the premium plan (3840 x 2160) for 17.99$ USD

and the price difference is only 4$ USD so it’s not a lot, so if you have a device ready for 4k and want to share your plan with other members then yes, that’s really worth it, but not for everyone, stay with us to learn more!

Netflix plans comparison

Netflix has currently 3 pricing plans to pick from. They have different benefits and features, also the price is different.

Let’s get deep dive into those numbers! The “Basic” plan for 8.99$ USD will let you use the quality (resolution) of 640 x 480 pixels on a simultaneous 1 screen only, so if you want to share your account with someone else, one of you will be forced to stop watching if the other one wants to watch something. The second “Standard” plan is for 13.99$ USD, the resolution goes up to 1280 x 720 and that is HD quality. In 2021 that quality is still very low because today’s standard is FullHD 1920 x 1080. With the “Standard” plan you can watch Netflix in your bed and let someone else watch a different movie on TV at the same time.

The highest “Premium” plan is 17.99$ USD, that’s a huge jump to 4k resolutions. To let you know how big that difference is let’s see the numbers: The “Standard” plan’s resolution is only 1280 x 720 pixels but with the “Premium” plan that number goes up to 3840 x 2160 pixels, and that’s a huge quality upgrade. Also, the number of simultaneous streams goes up to 4.

You have to know that not every movie on Netflix is prepared for 4k, like the older ones, but with this plan, you will also have access to 1920 x 1080 pixels quality and that’s nice compared to the “Standard” plan.

If you have to pay only 4$ USD more to get that big jump in quality I guess it’s worth it! But first, you have to make sure your device is ready for 4k resolution. You can also compare Netflix plans to other streaming platforms like HBO NOW, Prime Video, or Apple TV+ here.

Is my device ready for 4k?

You should check if your device is ready for that high resolution because it’s not common to have that high resolution in your TV, monitor desktop, laptop deskt

op, or smartphone. Your TV has the highest chance to be ready for 4k, but other devices to have that feature will have to be so expensive and high-end.

If you bought your laptop a few years ago, just to work on it, and it was medium-class then in 99% percent of cases it won’t be 4k. You should check it in your

resolutions settings to be sure before you buy the highest Netflix plan.

Netflix compared to other platforms

Netflix currently is the biggest one of all the streaming platforms, and here is the comparison based on the movies available on those platforms.

is Netflix 4k worth it

As you can see Netflix compared to other platforms is doing good, only Prime Vide has a higher number of movies available, but most of them are not as well known as those on Netflix, and we can see that number for the top 250 movies in IMDb from the bottom of that table.

The price on Amazon Prime is lower 12.99$ USD for the highest plan, so maybe we should check it out! The first thing that will guide you is to check if the movies you want to see are currently on Netflix or Amazon Prime, or even if the genre you prefer is bigger and has better movies than the other platform.

In summary – is Netflix 4k worth it?

If you plan to stay at home for the next few months… as we all do for obvious reasons then, yes! Netflix 4k is worth it.
